MORTON - Annabelle Stetzler, 92, of Morton died at 5:47 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton. She was born Sept. 13, 1918, in Crandall, Ill., to Paul and Ruth (Crandall) Brecher. She married Manuel H. Stetzler on Dec. 19, 1938, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1990. Surviving are one son, Kenneth (Carol) Stetzler of Morton; one daughter, Jeanne (Jacob) Plattner of Orinda, Calif.; five grandchildren, Rachael Weisgerber, Amanda Plattner, Karl Plattner, Erin Clark and Ryan Stetzler; and one brother, Robert (Doris) Brecher of Morton. A homemaker, Annabelle attended Morton Apostolic Christian Church. She served as a 4-H leader for 11 years and represented 4-H on the Tazewell County and Pekin park boards. Cremation rites will be accorded. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with an Apostolic Christian Church minister officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Morton Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery. Morton - Geneva M. Joos, 90, of Morton, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Snyder Village in Metamora. She was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Flora, Ill. to Curtis S. and Essie F. (Pennington) Brown. She married Joseph L. Borton Jan. 4, 1941in Ill. He preceded her in death in April of 1969. She later married George R. Joos on March 2, 1968 in Morton. He passed away Feb. 11, 2001. She also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Surviving are son, Jerry L. Borton of Boynton Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Donna K. (Bob) Doerr of Metamora; two stepdaughters, Sharon (Jim) Waller of Morton and Marilyn (Ron) Hanson of Lincoln, Neb.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one niece; two nephews and their families. Geneva lived in southern Illinois until 1941. She lived the rest of her life in East Peoria, Peoria and Morton. She worked as a realtor for 20 years. Geneva also worked at Baurer Furniture for three years. Geneva enjoyed life to the fullest. She also enjoyed her time spent with friends and family. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She will be missed deeply by everyone whom’s life she touched. Geneva was a member of Grace Church in Morton, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, with Rev. Glyn Knight and Rev. Tim Bertsche officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery in Morton. Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to Grace Church or St. Jude Runners Association. |

He was born July 2, 1916, in Wayne County, the son of Curtis and Essie Pennington Brown. He married Eva Beasley on March 8, 1937, in Centralia. Surviving were his wife; sons, Garry Brown and wife Nancy; Greg Brown and wife Cindy; sisters, Opal Cates; Geneva Joos; grandson, Michael Garry Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a graduate of Flora High School and received his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University and earned his master's degree from the University of Illinois. He began his 37-year teaching career in the Southern Illinois/Noble area. He then taught at Chanute Air Force Base, in Rantoul and later moved to Shelbyville, where he taught business, industrial arts and concrete classes at the high school for 25 years, before retiring in 1978. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shelbyville and Illinois Retired Teachers Association. |
Opal Cates, 88, of Cisne, IL died March 19, 2006, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. She was born November 5, 1917 in Zenith, the daughter of Curtis and Essie Pennington Brown. She married Burl Cates November 25, 1935 in Fairfield and he preceded her in death February 27, 1989. She was a retired owner of Cates Western Auto in Cisne, was a member of Cisne Eastern Star Lodge #973, attended Cisne United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Cates; one sister, Geneva Joos; three granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and one brother, Murvin Brown. Graveside services were held at the Cisne Cemetery with Hosselton Fuenral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Cates Memorial Fund for park benches on the Village Square in Cisne. |
Glenna A. Schaefer, 66, of 611 Matthew, Lot 19, died at 5:43 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Heritage Manor. She was born Sept. 3, 1933, in London Mills to Ernest and Amy Smith Buck. Surviving are two sons, Gary (and Lauri) of Chillicothe and Larry (and Debra) of West Columbia, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Marilyn) Devoss of Chillicothe and Mrs. Verne (Debbie) James, both of Chillicothe; one brother, Robert Buck of St. James City, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was a custodian at Town Theater for more than 20 years. She was a member of Chillicothe United Methodist Church. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Weber Funeral Home. The Rev. Keith Ferguson will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Chillicothe City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Rescue 33.
