PEORIA - Charles E. "Charlie" Joos, 79, of Peoria died at 3:52 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center. Mr. Joos was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Sparland, Ill., the son of Emil and Lena Musselman Joos. He married Shirley Clary on July 31, 1949, in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Rod (Tracy) Joos of Peoria Heights and Steven Joos of Poseyville, Ind.; and one daughter, Karen (Roger) Weiss of Hampshire. Also surviving are three brothers, Robert (Lorene) Joos of Peoria, Duane (Penny) Joos of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Chris (Diane) Joos of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Margaret Meisinger of Metamora; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by one brother, Walter. Charles was a service technician for Pitney Bowes Company for 43 years prior to his retirement. He served in the Army. Charles attended the Peoria Apostolic Christian Church. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Princeville. PEORIA - Emil John Joos,84 of Peoria died at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002 at his residence. Born July 3, 1917, in Tenney, Minn, to Otto and Rose Traub Joos, he married Patricia Jane Stanslow on Nov. 6, 1943, in Morris, Minn. She died June 19 1977, in Peoria. One daughter and two brothers also preceded him in death. Surviving are one daughter, Pam Kahler of Springfield; two sons, Todd (and Lorie) of Low Point and David of Peoria; six grandchildren four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Albert (and Edith) of Hancock, Minn. He was a World War II Army veteran. He worked as a meat cutter before retiring. He was a member of Grace and Peace Lutheran Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before. The Rev. Wayne Shelksohn will officiate. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens. DEER CREEK - Emma L. Ackerman, 85, of 31940 U.S. Route 150 died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at her home. Born Jan. 23, 1918, in Tenney, Minn., to Ernest and Louise Aupperle Joos, she married Robert J. Ackerman on Sept. 21, 1940, in Peoria. He died Sept. 15, 1993. She also was preceded in death by nine brothers and three sisters. Surviving are two sons, Roger (and Margie) of Deer Creek and Donald (and Wanda) of Washington; three daughters, Roberta (and Tim) Beutel of Morton, Diane Peterson of Chelsea, Mich., and Elaine (and David) Barth of Bluffton, Ind.; one sister, Louise Winemiller of Washington; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was a member of Deer Creek Home Extension for 50 years and was a former member of Deer Creek Parent Teacher Association. She had served as a 4-H leader in Deer Creek for 20 years. She attended Morton Apostolic Christian Church in Morton, where services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. The church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ernest Joos, 81, a resident of Tremont for the past 15 years, died at 2:30 am today at his home. He was born April 10, 1876 , at Wurtenberg, Germany, a son of John and Johanna Keller Joos. He married Louise Aupperle in Princeville, Ill., on Aug 25, 1901. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Corrington Avenue Christian Apostolic church, Peoria. He is survived by his wife; seven sone, George, Paul, Ben and Sam, all of Morton, John of Princeville, William of Deer Creek and Frederick of Washington; five daughters, Miss Carrie Joos and Miss Frieda Joos, both of Peoria; Mrs. Bertha Michael of Tremont; Mrs. Emma Ackerman of Deer Creek, and Mrs. Louise Winemiller of Washington; 34 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Schaefer of Peoria and Miss Minnie Joos, Peoria; two half-brothers, Gottlob Joos of Fairbury, Ill., and Emil Joos of Peoria; a half-sister, Mary Joos of Germany. Five brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 pm at Wright and Salmon mortuary and at 1:30 pm at the Corrington Avenue Christian Apostolic church. Interment will be in Sprindale cemetery, Peoria. Visitation will be at the mortuary after 2 pm Tuesday. |
WASHINGTON. Frederick G. Joos Sr., 75, of 1402 Miller St. died at 7 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 13, 1990) at the Apostolic Christian Restor Inc. in Morton. Born Oct. 14, 1914, in Tenney, Minn. to Ernest and Louise Apperle Joos, he married Luella C. Knapp on April 24, 1937, in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Frederick G. Jr. and Melvin, both of Washington; two daughters, Myrna York of Wilmington, Del. and Mrs. Larry (Maralee) Romfh of Lake Butler, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six bothers, John of Princeville, William of Deer Creek, George of Morton, Paul of East Peoria, Ben of Mesa, Ariz., and Sam of Brimfield; and three sisters, Miss Freida Joos of Peoria, Mrs. Robert (Emma Ackerman of Deer Creek and Mrs. Harold (Louise) Winemiller of Washington. He was preceeded in death by two sisters and two brothers. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He was a retired self-employed realtor. He co-founded Morton Realty and managed the Washington office from 1951 to 1984. He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 16 years. He developed Washington Edgewood Subdivison and was co-developer of Washington Knolls Addition, Ponderosa Estates and Green View Estates in Morton. He served as alderman for the city of Washington from 1965 to 1969. He was a past member and past president of the Washington Rotary club. He was a post member of the State and National Association of Realtors, the Independent Insurance Agents Association Peoria Board of Realtors and Society of Real Estate Appraisers. Services were held Tuesday, January 16 at his church. The Rev, Dean Beckwith officiated. Burial was in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Mason-White Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. |
Frieda H. Joos, 89, of the Apostolic Christian Home on Skyline Drive died there at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999. She was born Oct. 22, 1909, in Alta to Ernest and Louise Aupperle Joos. Surviving are two brothers, George Joos of Morton and Sam Joos of Hanna City; two sisters, Emma Ackerman of Deer Creek and Louise Winemiller of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. MORTON - George R. Joos, 84, of 216 S. Indiana Ave. died at 6:55 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Apostolic Christian Restmor. Born April 19, 1916, in Tenney, Minn., to Ernest and Louise Aupperle Joos, he married Caroline Stetzler on Oct. 12, 1941, in Morton. He later married Geneva Borton on March 2, 1968, in Morton. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Sharon (and Jim) Waller of Morton and Marilyn (and Ron) Hanson of Lincoln, Neb.; one stepson, Jerry Borton of Delray Beach, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Donna (and Bob) Doerr of Metamora; one brother, Sam Joos of Peoria; two sisters, Emma Ackerman of Deer Creek and Louise Winemiller of Washington; five grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters. He worked on the family farm in Minnesota until September 1936. He worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 10 years until 1947, when he started in the real estate and insurance business. In 1950, with his brother, Fredrick Sr., he began Morton Realty Co., with offices in Morton and Washington, where he worked as a real estate and insurance broker. He was co-developer of Washington Knolls addition, Ponderosa Estates in Washington and Joos Greenview Estates in Morton. A World War II Army veteran, he was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 318. He was a member of Kennel Lake Sportsman Club, Illinois Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Independent Insurance Agents Association, the Peoria Board of Realtors and Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Mennonite Church in Morton, where services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Earl Cecil will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by his American Legion post. Memorials may be made to his church building fund.
