TREMONT - Jane Marie Hellrigel, 67, of Tremont passed away at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at her home. She was born June 17, 1947, in Peoria to Benjamin and Berniece (Kyburz) Joos. She married Jim Hellrigel on Feb. 1, 1969, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in East Peoria. Surviving are her husband of Tremont; one son, Todd (Sally) Hellrigel of Green Valley; one daughter, Tina (Sam) Garmon of Clarendon Hills, Ill.; six grandchildren, Abby, Andrew, Benjamin, Maxwell, Gabrielle and Allie; two stepgrandchildren, Andrew and Austin Miller; two brothers, Dennis (Katherine) Joos of Peoria and Benjamin Joos of East Peoria; and three sisters, Cheryl (Bill) Blunier of New Haven, Ind., Barbara (Tom) Mauhar of Lincoln, Ill., and Bonnie (Stephen) Nave of Peoria. She was preceded in death by her parents. Jane worked as a reservationist with Ozark Airlines from 1967 to 1972. She then worked part time at Caterpillar Inc. and later as a receptionist at Clifton Gunderson from 1992 to 2002 and Suzi Davis Travel in Pekin from 2006 to 2014. She was a former member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in East Peoria and later attended Northwoods Community Church in Peoria. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt peacefully passed on into the loving arms of Jesus. Throughout her life, Jane was a friend to all, always greeting those in her life with a smile and kind, uplifting word. She inspired us to be better people by living her life with courage, dedication to her family and friends and her faith in Jesus. Her passion for life was centered around her family and friends and included baking cookies at Christmas with her grandchildren, holiday parties and birthday celebrations. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends and visited Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and Israel. Favorite family vacations included trips out West with the whole family, spending a week together each summer. Our beautiful Jane loved us enough to last a lifetime. God bless you as you rest in peace. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Further visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at the Apostolic Christian Church of Tremont, followed by a service at 10 a.m., with church ministers officiating. John G. Joos, 86, formerly of Princeville, died at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 24, 1994, at Parkhill Medical Complex in Chillicothe. Born Dec. 24, 1907, in Alta to Ernest and Louise Aupperle Joos, he married Louise Bach on Oct. 26, 1941, in Forrest. She died May 11, 1985, in Sarasota, Fla. He also was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Surviving are one daughter, Mary Louise Joos of Princeville; three brothers, William of Deer Creek, George of Morton and Sam of Brimfield; and three sisters, Freida Joos of Peoria, Emma Ackerman of Deer Creek and Mrs. Harold (Louise) Winemiller of Washington, Ill. He farmed in the Princeville area until 1962, when he and his wife moved to Princeville, where he was employed by various local concerns. In 1973 he moved to Sarasota, Fla., for a number of years. MORTON -- Lois I. Hamann, 82, of 935 E. Jefferson St. died at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996, at Apostolic Christian Restmor. Born Dec. 12, 1913, in Peoria to Adolph and Elizabeth Jacob Joos, she married Fred J. Hamann on April 11, 1935, in Peoria. He died Feb. 6, 1963. One brother, two sisters and one granddaughter also preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons, James and Jerry, both of East Peoria; one brother, Richard Joos of Gainesville, Fla.; one sister, Shirley Stephens of Morton; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She worked at Apostolic Christian Home in Peoria for nine years. She was a member of Apostolic Christian Church in Peoria. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be two hours before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Morton Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery. WASHINGTON – Louise H. Winemiller, 94, of Washington, passed away at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton. She was born April 15, 1921, in Tenney, Minn., to Ernest and Louise (Aupperle) Joos. She married Verner Harold Winemiller on Feb. 18, 1945, in Morton. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1999. She also was preceded in death by one granddaughter; nine brothers; and four sisters. Surviving are her children, Roy (Elvia) Winemiller of East Peoria, Larry Winemiller, Karen (Bob) Gustafson and Rex (Paula) Winemiller, all of Washington; 10 grandchildren, Molly Bonney, Max Winemiller, Tina Roe, Alan Winemiller, Tammy Christian, Doug Gustafson, Laura Gustafson, Heather Ulrich, Jeff Winemiller and Bryan Winemiller; three step-grandchildren, Paola Rojo, Daniel Rojo and Alex Cortes; 14 great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews. She was a member of Morton Apostolic Christian Church. She also was a member of the Woodford County Home Extension for more than 50 years. The family would like to thank all those who provided the compassionate care for Louise over the past year at Apostolic Christian Restmor. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. MORTON - Lydia S. Stoller, 82, of 935 E. Jefferson St. died at 1:10 am. Tuesday. Jan. 18, 1994, at Apostolic Christian Restmor, where she had been a patient since September 1993. Born Feb. 13. 1911, in Peoria to Adolph and Elizabeth Jacob Joos, she married Benjamin Stoller on Feb. 22. 1936, in Peoria. He died March 23, 1991. One sister and one brother also preceded her in death. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Randy (Judy) Taylor of Morton; one brother, Richard Joos of Gainesville, Fla.; two sisters, Lois Hamann of Peoria and Shirley Stephens of Morton; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She attended Grace Evangelical Mennonite Church in Morton. Services will be at 10 am. Thursday at Ludwig-Rohrschneider Mortuary. The Rev. Earl Cecil will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the mortuary. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. |
Melvin K. Joos, 72, of Washington, IL died at 9:15 pm Friday, June 10, 2016 at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Born on May 26, 1944 in Washington, IL to Frederick G. and Luella Knapp Joos Sr., he married Pat Tilton on July 1, 1995 at Glen Oak Park in Peoria. Pat survives. Also surviving are his children, Darin Joos of Champaign, IL, Cara Joos, of Columbia, MO, Karin Tilton Gurdian of Springfield, IL, and Rob (Teresa) Tilton of Washington, IL, 5 grandchildren, Nick Gurdian, Alex Gurdian, Jessica Tilton, Ashley Tilton, and Olivia Tilton, his brother, Frederick (Shirla) Joos Jr. of Washington, IL, two sisters, Myrna York of Wilmington, DE and Maralee Joos (Jon Anderson) of Gainesville, FL and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved dog, Smooch. Mel began his working career with Chris Ebert Company in Washington, where he was a well driller helper. He then went on to complete a 5 year apprenticeship with Steamfitters Local #353 in Peoria, and worked out of that local for over 50 years. He finished his career with Pipco Companies, Ltd. in Peoria as a Project Manager, where his last project was the renovation of the Hotel Pere Marquette. From 1992-2014, Mel served on the Washington Planning Commission, 20 years of which he served as the Chairman. He also had been a volunteer for the Deer Creek Fire Department for several years, and was currently co-chairman of the Washington Old Farts Club. Known for his love of the outdoors, Mel enjoyed hunting ducks, pheasants, quail, deer, elk, and even prairie dogs out west. He also enjoyed fishing on Kentucky Lake and in Canada. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a member of Ducks Unlimited, a founding member and served as President of the Washington Chapter of Pheasants Forever, was a member of Peoria Skeet Club, and was President and part owner of the Golden Eye Duck Club in Lacon, IL. He was a proud owner of a BMW motorcycle, and belonged to the BMW Illinois Valley Club 70. He, Bob Ebert, and his brother Fred Joos Jr., rode 3 laps on the Daytona 500 track, high-banking and all, and completed 2 laps 2 years apart on the Springfield Mile Track. He also rode his motorcycle in every state but Nevada and attended the annual BMW Rally Tours. Funeral Services for Mel will be at 11 am Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington. Pastor John N. Bates will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, with additional visitation from 10-11 am Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Memorials may be made to the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington, or to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation 8330 Ward Parkway Suite 510 Kansas City, MO 64114.
