The funeral for Albert Joos, of Hancock, Minnesota will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church, near Morris. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 8 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Apostolic Church Cemetery, near Morris. Albert Joos, son of Otto and Rose (Traub) Joos, was born on December 23, 1915 at Stark County in Illinois. When Albert was a young boy, the family moved to a farm near Tinney, Minnesota. Three years later, the family moved to Bertha, Minnesota, where Albert attended first grade. A few years later, the family moved to a farm near Hancock, Minnesota, where Albert attended school in District #65 and finished the 8th grade in District #16. He then worked on the family farm and milked cows. On October 31, 1943, Albert was united in marriage to Edith Nellie Zeltwanger at Morris, Minnesota. The couple lived and farmed in Horton Township and later purchased a farm in the Hancock area. Edith died on August 26, 2003. Albert continued to live near Hancock until 2007, when he moved to the Skyview Court in Morris. He became a resident at the West Wind Village before entering the Courage Cottage in Morris. Albert enjoyed fishing, gardening, feeding livestock and farming. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. Albert served on the Hancock Co-Op Creamery Board for 39 years. He loved being with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Albert died on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, Minnesota. He was 94 years old. He is survived by two sons, Robert Joos, Minneapolis, MN, and Jerry Joos, Hancock, MN; two daughters, Jan Knapp, Peoria, IL and Barb (Rod) Heimer, Taylor, MO; ten grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Edith, his parents, one daughter-in-law, and one granddaughter. Pallbearers for the funeral will be Scott Joos, Brandon Schock, Shane Joos, Aaron Schock, Jamie Joos, Jesse Heimer and Jacob Heimer. Honorary pallbearers will be Mitchell Hoerr, Peyton Joos, Billy Waibel, Creighton Schock, Blake Joos, Gideon Joos, Max Heimer and Ridge Snyder. The Apostolic Christian Church Choir will provide special music for the service. |
MORTON - Benjamin D. Joos Sr. 68, of rural Morton died at 6:15 p.m Tuesday (Feb 12, 1991 at Apostolic Christian Restmore in Morton. Born Oct 26, 1922 in Tenney, Minn., to Ernest and Louise Aupperle Joos, he married Bernice Kyburz on Oct. 8, 1944 in Morton. She survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Jim (Jane) Hellrigel and Mrs. Charles (Bonnie) Mullins, both of Tremont, Mrs. Thomas (Barbara) Mauhar of Lincoln and Mrs. William (Cheryl) Blunier of Leo, Ind.; two sons, Dennis E. of Peoria and Benjamin B. Jr. of East Peoria; five brothers, John of Princeville, William of Deer Creek, George of Morton, Paul of East Peoria and Sam of Brimfield; three sisters, Frieda Joos of Peoria, Mrs. Robert (Emma) Ackerman of Deer Creek and Mrs Harold (Louise) Winemiller of Washington; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. A World War II Army veteran, he was a partner in Joos Bros. Masonry Construction Co. of East Peoria for 30 years before retiring in 1980. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Apostolic Christian Church of Tremont, 801 S. Chestnut, Tremont, with church ministers officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davis Mortuary in Tremont, and also one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Tremont. Memorials may be made to the Apostolic Christian Restmor, Gateway Wood Apostolic Christian Children's Home of Leo, Ind., or to the American Cancer Society. |
TREMONT - Bertha A. Michel, 81, of 603 Maple Court died at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday at Methodist Medical Center, where she was a patient 12 days. Born July 26, 1906, in Alta to Ernest and Louise Aupperle Joos, she married Willam C. Michel on March 12, 1931, in Peoria. He died July 25, 1983. One sister also preceded her in death. Surviving are three sons, William Jr. and Donald L., both of Morton, and Paul E. of Tremont; one daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Louise) Martin of Princeville; eight gandehildren; and one great-grandson. Also sUrviving are seven brothers, John Joos of Princeville, William Joos of Deer Creek, Fred Joos of Wasbington, George and Paul Joos, both of Morton, Benjamin Joos in Minnesota and Samuel Joos of Edwards;and three sisters, Miss Frieda Joos of Peoria, Mrs. Robert (Emma) Ackerman of Deer Creek and Mrs. Harold (Louise) Winemiller of Washington. She attended the Apostolic Christian Church of Tremont. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with church ministers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Davis Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Restmor Inc., or to the Apostolic Christian Home for the Handicapped, both in Morton. |
Miss Carrie M. Joos, 64, of 1023 E Corrington Ave., who was one of four persons injured in an auto accident May 19 on War Memorial drive, died at 6 pm yesterday in Methodist Hospital where she had been a patient since the crash. A resident of Peoria for 40 years and of the above address the past 20 years, Miss Joos was born Aug 10, 1902 at Alta, the daughter of Ernest and Louise Aupperle Joos. She was a member of the Sheridan Road Apostolic Christian Church. She is survived by seven brothers, John G Joos, of Princeville, William of Deer Creek; Frederick St., of Washington; George, or Morton; and Paul, Ben and Same Joos, all of East Peoria; foour sisters, Mrs. William (Bertha) Michel, of Tremont; Miss Frieda Joos, with whom she made her home; Mrs. Robert (Emma) Ackerman, of Deer Creek; and Mrs. Harold (Louise) Winemiller, of Washington; 19 nieces and 18 nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Thursday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary and at 1:30 pm in Sheridan Road Apostolic Christian Church. The church ministers will officiate. Friends may call at the mortuary from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm tomorrow and burial will be in Springdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sheridan Road Apostolic Christian Church. |
