Marguerite Dunham, formerly of Atlanta, Illinois, passed away peacefully, Dec. 13, 2010, at the age of 99 in Boulder City, Nevada. She was born Oct. 21, 1911, to Roscoe C. & Emma Mae Lesher in Normal, Illinois; she was one of seven children. She met Leland H. Dunham, also known as Bill, in 1934, and they were married April 17, 1937. From their union, a son, William (Marilyn) of Prescott, Arizona , a daughter, Carol Doane, (Bill) of Flagstaff, Arizona, and a daughter, Marilyn Sutch (Richard) of Henderson, Nevada, were born. She had lived in Phoenix for many years before moving to Boulder City, Nevada, about five years ago, to be near her daughter, Marilyn. She resided in an assistant living facility, The Homestead, and was very happy living there. She was a wonderful wife and mother and the matriarch of her family. She is survived by her three children, 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, three step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, who died May 11, 1961, and one granddaughter. The family requests that donations be made, in her memory, in lieu of flowers, to The Atlanta, Illinois Library & Museum, Atlanta, Illinois, 61723, or a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held Dec. 27, 2010 at 10 a.m. at her place of residence, the Homestead, in Boulder City, Nevada. Services will be held in Atlanta, Illinois, in the latter part of April or first of May, 2011, and burial will be in the Atlanta Cemetery next to her late husband, Judge Leland H. Dunham. Second St., Rock Falls, died Wednesday, July 18, 1996, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Melvin-Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established. Mrs. Cole was born Oct. 29, 1912, in Normal, the daughter of Earnest and Lucy (Clements) Lesher. She married Earl Cole on Feb. 10, 1934, in Towanda. He died Feb. 2, 1994. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Rock Falls. Survivors include one daughter, Linda (Rick) Chaffee of Sterling; and one sister, Grace Waller of Bloomington. She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. |
Long-time area resident, Velora Paternoster went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 16, 2010. at the age of 93 years. She was born Velora Elizabeth Looker on March 6, 1916 in Akron, Ohio. Velora was married to Harry Paternoster on October 26th, 1935, in Akron. The couple came to Southern California in 1937 and to Terra Bella in 1946 where they, were citrus growers for 30 years. Velora was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Harry (2003) and daughter Patricia (1986). She is survived by her sons; Ron and Steve, 8 grandchildren; Pam, Tim, Scott, Morgan, Kelli, Kristen, Amy, Mark, 6 great-grandchildren; Kimberly, Sophia, Spencer, Sam, Parker, Cameron, and 1 great-great grandchild; Zane. As a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Velora gave her family love, support, and encouragement throughout her lifetime. We are truly blessed to have had such a loving person to set the tone for our families and relationships. Velora's genuine warmth and easy laughter made all who knew her feel welcome and at home. Her life impacted many through her generous friendship, her years as a teacher's aid at Terra Bella School, and through her favorite activity of golf. She had a special place in her heart for dogs and puppies and many will remember her walking Toby at Sierra Hills. We will all greatly miss her gentle, loving presence. A graveside service will be held at Vandalia Cemetery on Saturday, January 23rd at 11:00 AM. |

Mary Ellen (Lukehart) Poignant, 90, of Chillicothe passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011, at 12:14 p.m. at her residence. She was born Dec. 22, 1920, in Sparland, Ill., the daughter of Calvin "Dewey" and Clara (Taylor) Lukehart. She married John H. Rouse on Aug. 31, 1941. He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1944. She later married John Poignant on Nov. 25, 1947, in Magnolia, Ill. He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 2006. Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Kay McGee of Rome, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Spring of Chillicothe, Monica McGee of Rome, Ill., and Jason McGee of Rome, Ill.; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Lauren. Also surviving is one sister, Anna Mae Adams of Chillicothe. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Fern Rand. She worked at J.C. Penney, Ben Franklin and This 'n That Gifts, all in Chillicothe. Mary Ellen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chillicothe. She enjoyed spending time and doing activities with her family and grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. The Rev. Ray Harrison will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Chillicothe City Cemetery. CARLOCK - Teresa Waller, 92, of 2563 Dixon Ford Road, Carlock, died at 7:10 a.m. Friday (Nov. 3, 2006) at her family residence. Her service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at East White Oak Bible Church, Carlock, the Rev. Daniel Waller and the Rev. Jeff Waller officiating. Interment will be in East White Oak Union Cemetery, rural Carlock. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Otto-Argo-Calvert Funeral Home, Carlock. Memorials may be made to the East White Oak Union Cemetery General Fund. She was born Oct. 19, 1914, in Bloomington, a daughter of Anton and Barbara Tiber Marksteiner. She married Sammie H. Waller on Oct. 6, 1935, in Normal. He passed away May 21, 1991. Survivors include five children, James (Jackie) Waller of Hudson, Robert (Linda) Waller of Carlock, Sam (Neva) Waller of Carlock, Roger (Pat) Waller of Carlock, and Esther (Bob) Shaw of Hudson; two sisters, Helen Keating of Massachusetts and Mary Burris of Hudson; one brother, Tony Marksteiner of Liberty; 14 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters. Teresa enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers and her family. She will be missed by all who knew her. |
