- Clara L. Jones, age 79, a resident of Oliver Springs went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 7, 2008 at Briarcliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Jones was born April 16, 1928 in Oliver Springs. She is a lifelong resident of this area.
She was a member of Oliver Springs First Baptist Church, the Vota-Vita Sunday School Class, and she sang in the church choir.
Mrs. Jones was formerly employed as a bank teller and as a clerk at French's Market.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Jones Castleberry and by her parents, Omer Cox and Bessie Kathrine Stansberry Cox, by three brothers; Sam, Luke, and Carl Cox, and by a son-in-law, Carl Brock.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years; John Paul Jones of Oliver Springs, by a daughter; Paula Baumgardner and husband Dr. Jim Baumgardner of Oliver Springs, by sons; John P. Jones Jr. D.D.S. and wife Melinda of Powell, and Charles E. Jones and wife Carman of Oliver Springs, a former son-in-law, Wayne Castleberry and wife Claudia of Kingston, by grandchildren; Wayne Castleberry II and wife Jaymi, Joe Brock and wife Stephanie, John P. Jones III and wife Jennifer, Christina Johnson and husband Jamie, Sarah Brock,Chuck Jones, Abby Barnes and husband Steve, Vince Jones, and David Jones, by 6 great-grandchildren; Joseph Brock, Jacob Brock,Loren Johnson, Damen Johnson, Brenya Castleberry, and Arlyn Castleberry. She is also survived by two brothers; Omer Cox and wife Betty of Oliver Springs, and Bernard Cox and wife Margie of Oliver Springs, by a sister; Ann Thacker of Oliver Springs, and by several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 10, 2008 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 pm at Sharp Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Charles Parker and Dr. Jim Baumgardner officiating. Burial and graveside services will be held Friday, January 11, 2008 at 10:00 am at Anderson Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff members of Briarcliff Health Care Center who extended tender and compassionate care to Mrs. Jones in her final days and hours. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
