Born Oct. 14, 1914, in Tenney, Minn. to Ernest and Louise Apperle Joos, he married Luella C. Knapp on April 24, 1937, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Frederick G. Jr. and Melvin, both of Washington; two daughters, Myrna York of Wilmington, Del. and Mrs. Larry (Maralee) Romfh of Lake Butler, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six bothers, John of Princeville, William of Deer Creek, George of Morton, Paul of East Peoria, Ben of Mesa, Ariz., and Sam of Brimfield; and three sisters, Miss Freida Joos of Peoria, Mrs. Robert (Emma Ackerman of Deer Creek and Mrs. Harold (Louise) Winemiller of Washington. He was preceeded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He was a retired self-employed realtor. He co-founded Morton Realty and managed the Washington office from 1951 to 1984. He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 16 years. He developed Washington Edgewood Subdivison and was co-developer of Washington Knolls Addition, Ponderosa Estates and Green View Estates in Morton.
He served as alderman for the city of Washington from 1965 to 1969. He was a past member and past president of the Washington Rotary club. He was a post member of the State and National Association of Realtors, the Independent Insurance Agents Association Peoria Board of Realtors and Society of Real Estate Appraisers.
Services were held Tuesday, January 16 at his church. The Rev, Dean Beckwith officiated. Burial was in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Mason-White Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
