    • WASHINGTON - Luella C. Joos, 92, of Washington, Ill., died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka.

      Born on Oct. 5, 1915, in Goodfield, Ill., to William and Amollia "Molly" Roth Knapp, she married Frederick G. Joos Sr. on April 24, 1937, in Peoria. He died on Jan. 13, 1990.

      Surviving are two sons, Frederick (Shirla) Joos Jr. and Melvin (Pat) Joos, both of Washington, Ill.; two daughters, Myrna York of Wilmington, Del., and Maralee Joos (Jon Anderson) of Gainesville, Fla.; one sister, Clementine Joos of Deer Creek; two brothers, Chris (Emma) Knapp and William (Eilene) Knapp, both of Morton, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

      She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister and a special friend, Bob Tesch.

      Luella was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington, where she belonged to the Alter Society. She also was active in the Washington Home Extension for more than 45 years.

      She and her husband enjoyed square dancing for many years and participated in the Washington Dance of the Month Club. Luella also enjoyed golfing, bowling, riding her bicycle and her extensive travels throughout the world. A highlight in 2000, Luella took her children and their spouses on a five-country European tour.

      Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington. Pastor Alice Gwin will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington, with additional visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.

      Memorials may be made to her church or to Five Points Washington.
